The wife and I just got this 04 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer. It’s fantastic, 4L V6 runs smooth and it’s got so many toys including a remote start and heated seats. we are the 2nd owners as the PO bought it new. The wife is super happy which is what matters right? It’s also got captains chairs in the second row instead of a bench which is something I’ve never seen on an explorer before

Damn, that looks super clean. It’s a win if the wife is happy!

Be wary of the transmission. These things were famous for transmission falures if memory serves me right.

Yeah as soon as we get the money it’s going in for a transmission flush and check

It is, literally the only rust on it is surface rust on the underside, otherwise it’s solid and it was well maintained

Good deal! The engine bay looks especially clean.

Good idea

Otherwise, nice! These were on my short list when I was looking for a “new” car until I learned about the trans issues. Still wouldn't mind one honestly.

I have the same transmission in my car. Usually doesn’t have servo bore problems till 150k or so. Solenoid pack is a common failure, only use oem.

That looks absurdly clean.

My dad’s got Mercury Mountaineer of the same year, his is a V8 model though. Think he looked at these before he got it. V8 models though.

Good. I never liked driving my friend’s awd explorer. AWD with a frame is weird.

Nice looking rig. Our neighbor across the street got a used one of those a couple years ago and loves it. My understanding is that the transmission issue is exacerbated with routine towing - just swap the transmission fluid more frequently.

Yeah we don’t have anything to tow, it has a hitch receiver so I might buy a bike rack for that but other than that no towing
